P90X3 Yoga

Did P90X3 Yoga last night and then Total Synergistics early this morning to start off my new year Beachbody challenge. The back to back workouts with only 4 1/2 hours of sleep completely kicked my butt. I definitely didn't put everything into the workout this morning, I was drained. Luckily now I'm back to the regular morning workout schedule so it will be easier next time. Just can't miss anymore workouts!!

Last night was my second time doing the yoga workout and I definitely saw a difference. It took a few times but I was actually able to get up into crow and hold it long enough for the hubs to get a picture for me. I'll admit,  the first few attempts I ate the exercise mat. Or more like gravity force fed it to me by slamming it into my face. But my competitive nature hated that there was something my husband could do that I couldn't even attempt so I was determined to get my feet up off the ground and hold that pose! I regretted it a little this morning when I couldn't hold my plank because my wrists hurt too much, but my pride still thinks it was completely worth it.

The Challenge

P90X3 The Challenge
Couples workout this morning! Rocked P90X3 The Challenge with the hubs this morning and feeling pretty beast. Used Energy and Endurance for the first time. The flavor is good, not amazing, but good. And the effects are totally worth it! I felt awake and ready to rock when we started the workout. We also used Results and Recovery for the first time after the workout, it is AWESOME! If you are like me, you don't like protein powder drinks after a workout. After being on Shakeology so long the protein drinks are too sweet for me anyway and I have to force them down. Plus a milk based heavy drink is NOT what I want when I am tired and all sweaty and thirsty. The R&R you mix with water and is very refreshing, and it tastes just like a dreamsicle! It tastes SO good! I could definitely drink this on a daily basis. YUM!!

Happy Skinny Birthday!

Happy Skinny Birthday!

It was my husband's birthday yesterday. With both of us being Beachbody coaches, and about to start full speed ahead on P90X3 with our challenge group soon, I knew he wasn't going to want a big sugary, fatty birthday cake. It just doesn't fit with what we are trying to do right now. Yeah, we could use the "excuse" that it was his birthday if we wanted to, but that's not how we want to live. Always making excuses to eat something that is bad for us. So this is what I came up with. Gluten free rice krispies treats that I formed in a cake pan with whipped cream on top. Still very sweet and it satisfies even the sweetest of sweet tooth's without being heavy and loaded with calories. :)

Cut of the Negative

Sometimes you just need to cut the negative things out of your life. That can be anything. Anything that negatively impacts you. It could be a person you follow on facebook who is just always posting things that are negative or keeps starting fights with people. It could be a group you're in. It can be a friend who always seems to have something negative to say about you or complains constantly so they always put you in a bad mood.

You DON'T need anyone or anything adding more negativity to your life, you are worth so much more and life is difficult enough on it's own. We all have stress from money, and work, and busy lives. Don't let someone add to it by filling your head with negative thoughts. Surround yourself with positive, supportive people, and tell the others to shape up or ship out.Who knows, you may end up changing their lives too by bringing attention to how negative they are all the time and how much it affects you.

Love for the Special Needs Mom

Life will throw you curve balls, but that doesn't mean they are all bad. Curve balls are one of the things that keep life interesting, and sometimes difficult. How boring it would be to live constantly on the straight and narrow anyway, right?

Here's one of my curve balls...
This is Lily.
At 2 years old we found out that this non-talking, goofy, little bundle of attitude has Childhood Apraxia of Speech. I know none, or very very few of you, know what that is.

Childhood Apraxia of Speech is a motor disorder that affects a child's ability to talk. It is not a mental disorder. Mentally, they know exactly what they want to tell you. Lily still often slows down her speech and will attempt to act out what she is trying to tell me, because she knows the words, and her mouth just isn't letting her say them. I'm sure you can imagine the frustration of knowing exactly what you want to tell someone but no matter how many times you try it won't come out right. Picture thinking in English but whenever you open your mouth it call comes out in Klingon.

Because of this frustration Lily would (and still does at times) have fits out in public. Something every special needs parent has to deal with, sometimes on a regular basis. Remember when I asked you to imagine the frustration of not being able to tell someone what you need? Of knowing what you want to say and it never coming out right? Now picture for moment that you are 2 or 3 years and trying to tell your mother what you want to eat at a restaurant. You attempt to say it over and over again and she is still staring at you with that confused look, telling you that she still doesn't have an earthly clue what you are trying to say. And if you don't get this information across to her she is going to get you something you won't want to eat. (Which is a HUGE deal because many special needs children are very picky eaters) Would you be perfectly calm?

NO! You wouldn't! That's like telling the waiter you want a salad and every time he repeats the order back to you he says you want a steak, you'd get pretty upset with that waiter, huh? And I doubt you will be talking to him in a nice calm voice after he tells you for the third time that you want a steak.

Special needs children are not bad. They are not stupid. They do NOT have bad parents, in fact they have very devoted and hard working parents that likely go through things in a day you can't even imagine.

What they ARE is misunderstood.

So please... the next time you are in a restaurant, toy store, department store, anywhere... and you see that mom trying to calm down her child who is in the middle of a four alarm fit, do not judge her. Do not judge her child.

You don't know what curve balls life has given them.
